This royal A Hole is older, white male in his mid to late fifties at least... usually can be heard walking around the office making ridiculous remarks like, "That's why they pay me the big bucks!" Although he is usually on the phone yelling at his loser kid or on the internet... and no one really knows what this guy does besides talk loudly on the phone all day. He holds infamous quarterly one on one meetings which are to be a time to discuss important things that need to be addressed, career path etc. Instead spends the entire time talking about himself and dispensing his "knowledge." Here's the kicker. In the last round of face to face meetings he shared the following to each of us about one of our company's key executives: "Well let me share some inside information with you about (name of female executive). Have you ever met her? Well, I have and let me just say if you were looking in a dictionary or encyclopedia under the word bitch, her picture would be right next to it. So watch out for her." And I'm sitting there like are you freaking kidding me?! I asked him, "What did you just say?" And that dumb A Hole actually repeated the statement! When I tell him what I'm working on, he doesn't give me eye contact and then walks off while I'm in the middle of talking. On other occasions, he has called me in his office to discuss projects and while I'm sitting there he makes me sit there while he makes personal calls about what he's doing next weekend. When I try to make small talk and say "Hi" he either ignores me or just rams into my chair while he's staring at his blackberry. He also makes me stay late and work on projects that he says are due that night, but doesn't look at them until a week later. He'll talk right over me as I'm talking on the phone. But he's not just talking over me, he's giving me commands....WHILE I'm on the damn telephone!! Sometimes its a client and I end up getting extremely annoyed. I'll be trying to give very exact information to one of our technicians in the field and my boss will be talking completely over me, TO me. Sometimes he will mumble bits of information he wants me to relay to the technician. I do my best to pay attention to BOTH conversations. Sometimes I will ask my boss, "I'm sorry will you say that again please" and he'll say, "LISTEN to me! I hate repeating myself!" He wont just talk to the damn technician on the phone himself...... he has to make it difficult. Sometimes my boss will be standing like 4 feet away from me and he still wont just pick up the damn phone and talk to his technician personally. I'm sure some of you will think this is totally unwarranted venting. But its SOoooooooo annoying. My boss has no sense of phone etiquette. One time, I stood up for myself and said to my boss, "you know, I have your technician on one end of the phone giving me precise information and then I have you standing here yelling out commands at me and I'm doing my best to pay attention to both of you and actively participate in both conversations." My boss showed some teeth and in a huffy puffy manner, said something like, "I'm WAY more important than the technician so you listen to ME when I am telling you something". Obviously my boss has a little superiority complex. There have been times when I'm at the office, in the restroom which is small. My boss will talk to me thru the damn door about some business matter. I mean come on...... i cant even use the restroom in peace. Next time he does THAT one, I'm just going to say (thru the door), "no matter what it is you have to say right now, it can probably wait until I'm done using the restroom". I will be working on paper work and Barbara "my boss" will prop her feet up and start picking at her funky toes. The skin is left on the desk area and she will leave it. She will have me empty her trash basket and its full of her snot rags and it stinks. I ask to leave early and she says wait.......my feet need a massage. I thought she was kidding untill she propped them up and held up some foot lotion for me to get. She owns a few businesses and plays the good ole stock market. I realized early on that she's incapable of working with OR for others and that's why she works for herself. She loves telling people what to do, how to do it, when to do it and exactly what will happen if you don't. Warm comforting feelings must race through her veins when she bosses people around. I also realized that she LOVES conflict. She feeds off of it. At a moment's notice or without notice at all, she is ready, prepared and already firing angry verbal darts at her employees without any thought towards professionalism, office etiquette or protocol. She would say that everyone works for her because they aren't smart enough to work for themselves. She's also a complainer. I had to drive my boss somewhere recently. "Had to". My boss owns about 6 vehicles, but somehow she wanted me to drive her somewhere. I drove. My vehicle is a little older, yeah yeah, the a/c doesn't work but the car drives and I'm very happy to have it. We had the windows rolled down enjoying the air. My boss began bitching about the Mexicans in the car next to us. "I can smell them" she said. She said other things which I wont share. Another vehicle drove by us, one older than mine. My boss complained about the smell of that car- the gasoline smell, the emissions, the people driving it. I just sat there in silence not really caring what level of bitterness my boss was living in. Then she said I needed to drive past the smelly car so she didn't get nauseous and vomit. I should have asked her if she wanted some Avian Water too or a warmed face cloth. She complains about everything. Why couldn't we have taken one of her luxury cars on the errand? Or when pointing out the color tabs to help him find items in a catalog and you blurt out the wrong color he says, "OH, SO YOU'RE COLORBLIND TOO?!" in the middle of a meeting. or how about screaming at the top of your lungs at how PURELY AND COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT YOUR TEAM IS AND WE SHOULD ALL BE SHOT (again) AND WE SHOULD BE FIRED (again). With her, she is ALWAYS right and EVERYONE ELSE IS ALWAYS WRONG. I've been on this job for 5 months. This bitch has repeatedly accused me of things I did not do, accused me of neglecting to do things that I did do & she nitpicks, micromanages & finds fault with every single stinking thing I do. I have had her roll her eyes at me for not being an IT expert. She saw my resume & she interviewed me & she KNEW I was not an IT expert & NOW she wants to count off on my eval b/c of it. I've been unable to get any kind of decent training & I've had to figure out how to do this job on my own. She gives me no training b/c she can't do the job. I'm not told how to do things & then I'm ripped into b/c they were not done. I can tell her something & she will come within a hair of callihg me a liar and when I send her email proof, she backs down. She told me once that if I say anything that contrasts to something a programmer says or something she thinks a programmer would do or say, she will always believe them over me. So I went to my desk & forwarded the email that a programmer sent to me, telling exactly what I just told her. She sent me a nasty semi-apology. She is now threatening to terminate b/c she says I make too many errors. I don't make any more than she does. She just scratches her out & goes on. The only difference in she & I is that her boss is in another building, not here in this one with us, breathing down her collar every second of every day like she is me. if he were, it'd be known that she makes as many errors as she says I make. A couple of them are so "interesting" to work with that several people have left because of it. One girl recently had just finished studying and had taken up a junior position. She was lucky enough to be offered a bar position a few months later, which she desperately wanted to do. The only problem was that the company would have to release her unpaid for a couple of months to do this. They refused. In fact not only that, but when she discussed handing her notice in, the boss threatened to sue her for recruitment costs etc. There's another "interesting character" my wife works for, who several people have said they are unable to work with. Despite being a new starter, she's been known to ask for a letter to be produced, and when asked a simple question about the content, refused to clarify. Aside from asking for things to be done and refusing to be more specific, she's then been known to stand up in the middle of the office and proclaim at the top of her voice "This is wrong. You've made another mistake. Do this again!". You're wondering what sort of mistakes warrant this, yes? Well, when providing an appointment, it makes all the difference in the world (it seems) if you write the time and date THEN the address, rather than the other way round. Every day she will have me mop the store and when it comes to around the stools at the diner, she has me get a rag and get inbetween the frames. When we are not busy she gets creative on her chores: scrub the inside of the garbage cans with a toothbrush and clorox bleach, I was told to get in her suburban and organize all the cd's, pens, papers, and all of her kids toys and crap. All she tells me is that when she was my age (19) she was a hard worker and that I am lucky to have a job with benefits. It took a turn the other weekend. I clocked in and my boss had her older sister with her and I was called to the back. I was told by my boss that Alice would be taking me to her house so I can help out with the yard work since there moving in. Uhhhhhh.....its not in my job description and right then my boss (Mrs. Klinkston) says "yes sir it is" the whole day I was pulling weeds, mowing, weedeating, and scrubbing old gutters. I clocked out and as I was leaving my boss told me to wear yard working clothes again. That was my first mistake. Don't ever work for privately owned hotels. I had a coworker in my front desk department who was about 20 yrs older than the average age in our department. The majority of us in that department were pretty decent fun professional people. Except for one of our coworkers. She was on the same pay scale as 95% of us in the department but she would order us about, micromanage us, but into our transactions to make sure we were doing them correctly and in essence bother us ALL day after day after day after day. This coworker would act as a snitch and tried on several occasions to get some of us terminated. She would brag and brag and brag about the other hotels she worked at and how successful she was, all the professional business transactions she mothered along. She would brag about her house in Maui.She would brag about the Corvette she and her husband bought. She would brag about her fat, hussy daughter who was no more than an over fed illegitimate baby producing machine. Anyhow, this woman coworker of ours mastered the etiquette and customer service of hotel/hospitality but was 110% fake about it. She was literally dripping in gooey fakeness and would WAY over do it when talking with guests in person and on the phone. It would disgust us. All that PLUS the constant bragging......so if she was so wealthy, if she was really a P.I. (which i totally believe she was), if she had a house in Maui and what not, WHY was she working for a small hotel for under $12 an hour ?????? I worked at that hotel for about a year and 6 months in, it became evident that she either had to die or be fired lol. I'm trying to be humorous about the anxiety she caused everyone. I would sit and dream of a day when I could come into work and not have this coworker there. I would literally dream about her getting fired. We had a celebrity come to the hotel once with their spouse and she acted extremely unprofessional. She asked to have her picture taken with him!!!!!!!! That's a total absolute "no-no" in the industry. We are supposed to ensure their privacy. Anyhow, one day she WAS fired. It was short and took about 5minutes. The whole thing happened right before my eyes and I could not believe it. "There IS a God", I cried! Everything was better from that day on, in relation to the anxiety I felt every shift of my life. Until I was fired LOL.......Karma? Eh, probably! OH well lol. I fought my termination. They intimidated me and bullied me during the termination process which is simply unacceptable. I asked why i was being term'd. They said, "you know why". I had absolutely no idea why. Then I recalled a time about 4 months prior when I was given a warning. The only problem with the warning was, my boss did not tell me what I was being warned for, did not identify the error or misbehavior and did not give me a course of action to correct the behavior/error. My boss just said, "you've been warned and you know why". Well I'm SO sorry but that's intimidation!!!! Months later, they tried to fire me. They listed a few faulty reasons which I proved wrong with documentation. Then they scrambled for something and told me they were an "at will employer". So I told them if they were going to fire me, they need to list NO reason instead of listing false reasons which are easily proven wrong. In subsequent months after my termination, several others were fired for no apparent reason and given similar treatment.....intimidation.
