My boss started me at a certain wage which we never really agreed upon. He told me (within reason) to name my wage. He said its easier to pay employees a good solid wage and keep them around for a long time, than to give them poor wages and have a quick turn over. Well, he started me at a certain wage which wasnt really want I asked for (a bit lower). Then we had a change in payroll and I noticed I was earning LESS than I normally made. Months later, and I mean months....... I saw a $1 decrease per hour on my pay check and my boss did NOT notify me. This might be legal but its not ethical. I'm glad I actually paid attention to my pay stub. Im sorry but $1 per hour less is significant when you take into consideration gas prices and all. He repeatedly said I was a "effing moron". (censored for online purposes of course). Then he called me an "incompetent moron". Then he sent me an email and said he gives me "simple instructions that even a complete moron could follow". He accuses me of the most weird random stuff. Things that I did not do at all. Things that are so weird, its almost frightening to see into this man's mind and anxiety. I work for a small, privately owned business wherein im the only other person in the office. Times are hard, the economy is horrible and I need this job, but i cannot survive....not with a hostile work environment like this. Then my boss told me to do some random task for him and use my PERSONAL cell phone to make the call instead of the office phone. I don't think so! Then, my boss got all upset at me when I checked my personal email while I was on the clock. BUT.....funny thing, I use my own PERSONAL lap top computer to run my boss's business and do my daily work. So, its ok for me to work OFF the clock, its ok for me to use my personal cell phone to make business calls but its NOT ok for me to use my personal computer to check my personal email while im on the clock. Does this make sense to anyone??? My boss makes lists and lists of things for me to do on a weekly basis but then he'll give me tasks to complete that are NOT on the list, about 30min before I'm scheduled to go home for the day. Obviously Im not able to finish everything he commands me to do. The next day, he'll have a typed out list of everything I forgot to do the day before, sitting in my box for me to look at. Its horrible. I feel like a child being punished by a teacher at school or something. Its just so rude and insensative. He'll include little snippets of things I "forgot" to do 3 weeks ago and will compile them on 1 list so I can see everything accrue. Its demeaning. If he would just STOP giving me last minute tasks demanding they have to take presidence over my regular duties, I could complete my regular duties without a hitch.....what a bitch. She's getting close to retirement and wants me to take her position after she leave, but as she gets older she forgets EVERYTHING, so when you ask her if you can do something, and she says yes, she'll yell at you later because you shouldn't have done that. She only shows up to work 2-3 days a week, which is actually a good thing for employees, but a poor example. When she is at work she takes several trips to Target, Walmart, the pharmacy, hair dresser...and then will have the nerve to say employees aren't working enough. She calls me on Saturday at home to yell at me that I should never disagree with her in front of the other employees. A co-worker left her a suggestion about something she was going to do and I told him she would probably say "no" but I figured he could try and ask if he wanted. When she called I was not in the mood for her crap and didn't coddle her like I normally do. On Monday she called me into her office and gave me a written verbal warning for being unprofessional. She yelled at me for 20 minutes about how horrible I was and added a lot of personal attacks that had NOTHING to do with work. I sat there calm and professional the whole time and tried to bring her down from crazy town. At the end of her rant she felt better. It all makes me wonder why the hell I would want her job when she retires if it will turn me into a crazy loon as well. I answer his business phones and give him messages from clients. I do customer service and sometimes customers are NOT very happy. BUT that's not my fault. I will give my boss the messages and he'll yell at ME when he's actually frustrated at the customer or client. How immature!!! I get really tired when he's mad at another employee who is out in the field then comes to my desk to completely yell at me because I'm physically there. Usually I pay him minimal attention. He displaces his anger far too often. He's a total bully and to make it worse, he's the owner of the company (small company). Sometimes I want to say, "why don't you take your anger and frustrations out on someone else and leave me the hell alone??!?!!!" And then add a muttered, "ya bastard" at the end lol. Shortly after his doctor told him that he can't be here, he installed about 75 security cameras in and around the building. Now he calls me, and asks, "You were just in the conference room with your assistant for 12 minutes. What were you doing?", or "How come you spent so much time in the bathroom this morning- are you sick, or were you making personal calls on your cell phone?", or, the best, when my assistant had an allergy attack this spring, "I noticed (name omitted) coming out of the bathroom rubbing her nose suspiciously. I think that she may be on the cocaine. You should send her for a random drug test today." I have had micro managers as bosses before, but this is getting insane.
