What others think
Beware of this company!!!
Engineering company in Muscat, Oman.
Muscat, Oman is a beautiful place. And, the company I work at is is one of the top consultants in the US, rated very high on ENR rankings. Unfortunately no one is aware that this applies only to their US office. None of their benefits apply to their Middle East Offices.
The company has a very high employee exit rate in the Middle East. The company has a bad repuation amongst most civil engineers in the Middle East. That's why the company mostly looks towards other countries to hire.
Respect: The company seems to have no respect for all sub-management staff. Your opinion is never considered. The Muscat office is pathetic. No regard for employees. Any suggestion to improve workplace conditions is turned down blatantly.
Job Security: Management continuously talks of office relocation due to insecutrity regarding jobs from local Client. The conmpany has a high employee exit rate. Most people quite after a year or two.
Work/Life Balance: Pathetic! Employees reraely get a weekend free. No time to spend with families. Sad part is - overtime is rarely granted. So all the hard work you put in is only to safeguard your job. Quoting the management - "Do some charity for the company". Yeah, right! A supposedly A Class company asking employees to donate time for the company. Who does work for free wihout any compensation?
Career potential/Growth: NIL! No annual assesments. You literally have to beg for a salary raise. No Bonuses. US benefits are not applicable for Middle east employees.
Location: Good. If you can make some time to get out, the place - Muscat city is really beautiful. worth seeing. No complaints.
Co-worker competance: Bad! The reason is not that people are not good at work or not talented. Seeing the management attitude, everyone normally works by themselves - no teamwork.
Productivity through unity is the success formula of any organization. Not here, people!
Work environment: Pathetic. The office is bad. And I do mean bad. The air conditioner does not work. Imagine working in the hot and himd weather. No safety standards. their a/c installation is messed up. You will get all gutter smell through their vents. The company does not change their location only because they get it at a low rent. - at the cost of the health of employees. To all potential candidates: Beware. The choice to join is yours. If you have any friends in the Middle East, verify the facts above before you join. Do not ruin your career. The same story with all their middle east office. No one stays for long. Do NOT be fooled by what you see ont he website. All that jazz applies only to US offices.
Latest development: A US citizen hired by the company and sent to Muscat is threatening to sue the company - why? The manager fired him. The employeed doesn't know why and was not given any warnings and the company did not follow the correct procedure. He does have a solid case and the local sponsors and manegement are running to settle it out of court.....
So where’s the story about your boss? Sorry, but this isn’t a company warning site.
Why don’t YOU QUIT!!!
Wow, working conditions in the Middel East suck??!! I’m shocked!
....unless you are scared of your boss seeing this. This post mirrors to a "T" something that would be posted on jobvent.com. I am sorrowful for your situation over in the Middle East my friend, and I do hope things get better for you; that you get a job that pays overtime, you get into a better work environment, and that you get to spend some time with your family. Be grateful for one thing my friend....at least you have a job. I have no job and have no clue how I am going to pay my bills next month. Wouldn't have to worry about paying bills if my soon to be ex-wife hadn't run up miles of debt. Oh well, I'm doing my best. Anyhow, best of luck to you my friend, and best wishes.
