What others think
Bitching Boss
I went to dental assissting school, and after completion had a hard time finding work because of no experience. Finally a job came along that i thought would be perfect for me because it was a small office, just the oral surgeon, his wife and me. When the interviewed me, they seemed really nice, but I was totally wrong.
I should have known better from the beginning, when they said they had already gone through 10 assisstants in just a couple of years. But like I said, they seemed so nice.
I started on wednesday. The first two days went fine, but the third day he turned into a total ass. He said I was not doing my job right, and that my training was over from the minute I walked through the door. But when I was hired, the wife said how great I was, and that if I needed to go over something a million times, she was there for me.
Then the next monday, I overheard him bad mouthing me to a patient, and to his wife. A couple days after that there was an error in the appointment book, that was the wifes fault, and I was be-littled for it. A lady wanted to make and appointment, so I scheduled her, she was to bring her xray with her, and that had to be noted beside her appointment. Before I could finish writing it in, the wife sent me to do another job, and so it finished by reading "will bring in..." I told her what it was sapposed to say and she was sapposed to complete it. When the patient didn't show on the day she was sapposed to, which happened was my day off, he got ticked, the next day he got in my face about it, and asked "BRING IN WHAT, LUNCH?"
So, after several more acts like this, including him and his wife screaming at each other to "shut up" and "go to hell" I was having really bad anxiety problems, and I would cry on my way home every day.
There are so many storys about him that I could tell, the list is endless, but it ended the day I actually did do something wrong, and I was so scared, i had left for lunch, and I called to say I wasn't coming back any longer. While trying to explane to him why, he tells me that I am "Incompetent" and that I was annoying him so the conversation was over and he hung up on me.
Doesn't it sound like I was there for a while? NOPE only 3 weeks
This must be an epidemic in the medical field. I know of a similar case which is currently in litigation… the office manager spouted off to a patient about a nurse, and she filed charges. Might be something to look into.
to those who say quit complaning, you try having someone be little you and walk all over you like you are so beneath them you’re not worth the very air they breath. See how it feels and get back with me
thats horrible. what a jerk.
You should file a law suit for harassment!!! No one should ever be treated like that in a work place. But any more it seems like the norm. Employers just think they can walk all over you even when you give 100%. What is the world coming to?
Never ever work in a dental (or medical) office where both the husband and wife work. Nothing good will come of it.
As well as a few others I too , have been a victim of the same thing.I am a medical asistant and have encountered the same things in 2 seperate offices…someone needs to do something to help to protect us . We arent left with a whole lot of options other than quiting which doesnt pay your bills or feed your kids . We need to band together and do something…enough is enough
I’m a hygienist in an office where the boss’s wife of one year was previously an assistant/office person. She comes in at 11, goes out to lunch at 12, and chats incessantly the rest of the day about their life, trips, problems, money issues. We all know that her mistakes will always be seen as our fault ultimately, but it’s getting more and more difficult to tolerate. We’re doing back-breaking work hour after hour and she complains that she had to get up so early (8:00) that she really needs a nap. Sorry, just needed to vent!
I would say never work in a office where the bosses are Husband/Wives, or BoyFriends/GirlFriends
my office has went through 20 assistants in 4 years i know where you are coming from, i quit the job once but was offered a lot more money to come back so i did.
