What others think
He Got a Promotion and I
I worked for him for 3 years. He hired me right out of college and told me that he saw something special in me. He told me I'd have to work really hard and prove myself, but in a year's time I'd get a 10% raise and a new title.
I thought it sounded great. He was a great guy and the work was interesting. Plus, none of my friends had landed anything close to this type of job.
For a year I worked my ass off for him. Writing reports and creating presentations, taking phone calles and leaving messages. After the first year, he said "great job", but "my hands are tied". I didn't get the raise. About a month later, he got a new title and a new office. I moved with him so he coud "keep me close".
The next two years were more of the same. Except after year three, I and all my co-workers were called into a meeting. The president announced that the presentation that my boss had "created" had caused quite the buzz. He was made Vice-President and was given a company car. 10 minutes after the meeting my boss took me for coffee and said "thanks for the help, but I've taken you as far as you can go. Here's a cheque for one month's pay, your stuff will be delivered to your home"
Jerk.
that suks
omg, the guys such a jerk
sux
man that guy is an ass.. screw him! he just did you a favor….you are set to a new life now… better one
otoh, should have seen it coming. he did you a favor. move on!
I guess you should have learned your lesson after the first year.
wholy shit how could you take that?
If it was a real story you’d get my sympathy. For someone who’s supposedly sooooo intelligent how could you let this happen.
why u did not leave him earlier before? what were u waitng for?
incredible! you just need to put his name up here (+ e-mail address), we’ll spread the word. i am not sure what you meant by “presentation that my boss had “created”” (especially the “created” part; did you put in some major effort?), but you shouldn’t just let it pass. and it is NOT about being a sore loser, it is about some justice. get back at him! make him famous …
douse him in petrol and set him alight….
Two faced bosses are the worst.
Well, think how deep he’s now without you. :D
Now you can teach others, txs for that…
And still you have time to grow in a better place!
Here in Argentine we say:
If you know you are employee, and If you don’t you are the boss.
Be sure I’d be better now!
Think of it this way, one day he’ll have to do his own work and will not be able to deliver the goods. That will be the moment his bosses will realize he was passing other work and ideas for his own, and will fire him.
if its true, its unfortunate, but i hope you learned a valuable lesson: never let someone else dictate your career and development.
time to go on a rampage
Why would he fire you if you were good at your job and valuable to the company? I suspect there’s more to this story than you’re saying here. Like maybe you suck at your job.
Wake up and smell the one coffee he bought you. I can’t believe you’re such a loser and didn’t realize he was using you after 3 years of grunt work. If he hadn’t let you go – you’d probably still be there.
sux 2
The bloke sounds like a total parasite! Here’s some options for getting even… ;-)
- Mail him some dog poo.
- Get his business email address and start registering him on all sorts of internet porn sites.
- Pretend to be a reporter and interview his neighbours telling them you’re doing a story on him about transvestites.
- Write to your local newspaper telling them he’s sleeping around deliberately spreading AIDS.
This guy did you a huge favor by letting you go. Just think, you could have hung around for many more years being strung along. Sometimes, when somebody fires you, it really is the best for both of you. Be grateful that you can get on with your life.
You need to write a letter to the President of the company outlining everything you did, your ideas concepts and input. Clearly state in the letter (without emotion) your boss lacks any creativity very soon this will become apparent.
you know that he got rid of you because you possibly blown his cover that is incapable….
10 bux (or 10% raise!) says you’ll hear from ole’ shifty-ass at some point, begging you to return and do more of his homework.
you stayed on for years?!? plural?? you are an idiot.
I don’t think he/she is an idiot…I just think it’s unfortunate. Some people are very good at manipulating the system, obviously this guy was one of them. It sucks, but now at least the writer of the story can move on.
Keep proof that you create presentations like this in future and then if a boss repeats this type of behaviour watch their face as you call them a liar in front of their boss!!
Get his business email address and start registering him on all sorts of internet porn sites
He has set you free! Now you can take a big leap! Say thanks to your boss!?
Sucks that he didn’t give you the raise, but you should have 1.) received that in writing, and 2.) realized after the second year nothing was happening there.
As far as his incompetence, well, I’m sure you weren’t there every minute of his life in the various meetings, lunches and such that led to his promotion. To that extent, I think you overstate your importance to him.
You really have my sympathy here mate, but on what grounds did that jerk sack you?
Send him a thank you card…...Now move on…
I don’t see why you should put up with such shit! it’s true that you need to be careful and all with you work but you can’t just let this guy get away with credit for 3 years of effort that you put in! I’d never let the a**hole get away with it if I were in your place.
For all the people who are saying this person is unintelligent for putting up with a bad boss who steals the glory constantly – try having debts and a kid to feed and you too may stick with a job that doesn’t offer you to reach your full potential. Things aren’t as easy as they appear so until you’ve walked a mile in someone else’s shoes it’s wise to either sympathise ot STFU.
Set fire to his balls. Now.
let’s face it, if you are actually the cause if his success, he will fall down once you are gone… and if you are not and you just think you are…then maybe you have built yourself up a little too much and anything you will get in life will seem unfair to you
Been there myself. I came back from maternity leave and this idiot that was a lower grade level than me was suddenly my boss because of all the great work he submitted while I was on leave. Guess who’s work it was, that had to be left on the shared drive.
Life is full of surprises. Don’t stop because one boss is an ….hole.
stop being a pushover
Just hope he DIAF. What a d-bag.
Two faced bosses are the worst.
Unfortunately, this story is quite common. While I'm not blaming you, the simple fact of the matter is this: you're fate is in someone else's hands as long as you trade your time for a paycheck.
Start your own business. Yes, it's scary, risky, and you'll be broke a lot in the first few years. But who cares? At least when you're looking yourself in the mirror in the morning trying to figure out where your next paycheck is coming from - at least at that moment, your "boss" is you! No one to blame except that person!
You know, you got released on unjustifiable grounds and you could totally report that to the upper level management or the HR Dept. Maybe at least you can get the money you were promised. Also, if you did work on that presentation, you should have the original drafts in your computer systems and your boss shouldn't (unless you emailed him some drafts and he downloaded it to review it). Get your tech department to prove it.
Get his Home Address and know when he is home and call several Pizza Delivery places at 15 min intervals for a few hours of fun & watch from your best buds car or pickup.
Then call several Roofing companies and have them come to give estamates on evening every 30 min or so.
Then call his wife and tell her that he was having an affair with someone at the office and hang up without saying who you are.
well let's see my last post.......
Sounds like he's getting rid of the evidence that he didn't do squat to earn those promotions.
I know the kind .. my old Supervisor asked if I had signed the deal saving the company $50,000.oo/annum just before firing me. I mailed him a pizza one morning .. the same Pizza I had eaten the night before ;-)
