What others think
India is hell for insrnce
I was working with one of the non-life insurance companies in India. My boss was the Regional Manager of the state of Madhya Pradesh. Initially all went good but gradually he started bearing grudges because he hated my looks.
He had given me the toughest territory with the toughest business and the lowest commission to be proposed to advisors. Still I worked hard and grossed a good number of advisors and business too.
My business was standard one with a very low loss ratio. During Feb 2005 I blasted out on him after he abused me repeatedly as 'sister f****r'. This made him a wild animal to me and after completing the financial year he fired me.
I put everything in my exit report but it took one long year for the company to chuck him out. And that too when the new CMD took charges. The asshole is still in a better position as of now and I had to struggle for 13 months to find a suitable job.
This has happened because in the insurance industry, we are facing an HR crunch and new companies are hiring former gov't employees. These employees never went to any training for man-handling nor do they have leadership skills to get things done. I say to all that the insurance sector is no doubt growing but there are lots and lots of burnouts among employees due to bad bossism. I suggest to all indian private insurance companies to not to take anyone from gov't insurance companies. They are ruts.
Though I am an engineer working with conventional manufacturing industry with fat pay package- I agree with this view about Insurance Industry.
My elder bro – a genuine n humble guy – was working as an operations mngr for Gujrat territory in General Insurance firm. He also faced similar probs by the virtue of his Ass** boss. So he left this company within a 2 months and joined low paying job.
I really think that Insurance Companies HR teams must see the quantum of work delivered by their employees at front line in sales or in operations dept. Also the policy delivery time and stringent other crieterias of service industry are keeping employees on their toes all the time.
Top management want ZERO pending issues, but resources to acheive these standard of work like internet/Strong IT backbone (lets say SAP or like wise), Man power to do dataentry work…. are not given even in the reputed Insurance companies.
This is my humble request to HR team of general insurance companies.
