Slave Driver
Me and my fiance just brought a new baby home from the hospital, when he changed jobs. He went to work for this roofing company just 2 days after we brought our son home. The first day he was there the temp index outside was 107. For those who dont know, on a shingle roof, the temp is much hotter than that. So besides being extremely hot outside, he hadn't had much sleep because the baby seemed somewhat colicy. The boss of the crew was pissed because he was "taking to many" breaks. I'm sorry, but I think 1 five minute break every hour, when it is that hot out would be o.k.
Not to mention how everybody on the crew gets bitched at for working to slow. I don't know how much faster they can get when they tear off, re-shingle, and clean up 2-3 small houses in one day.
They also have to be at work at 6:00 which is fine, but they most of the time do not get home until about 7:30. last night was 9:30. They work on piece time which means they get paid on how much they finish any givin week, but it is usually 65-70 hours a week, but his pay check is only a measly $350.00. (approx $1.50- $2.50 an hour)
which basically comes down to being paid less than a waitress' salary.
They will work about 13 hours today

Obviously he needed a paycheck, otherwise why would anyone quit a job with a newborn unless the new job was better. If your boyfriend is only making $1,50-$2.50 an hour as you claim, he should quit and go work at MacDonald’s or WalMart where they at least pay minimum wage. You should also check with your state’s breaks and overtime laws. If what you say is true, and not just your boyfriend giving you a line about working late, then he would have a good case against the employer.
What a fool your husband is! Quit, put on a dress and become a waitress!! I know what it is to work for idiots. Don’t be one QUIT NOW! Hard work can be rewarded.
Assuming your “fiance” knows how to read and write, it is sad he has not gone to any retail operation in the US to get a job, for one of many examples. In addition, it is sad that you believe he will be able to support 2 people on no money. The story about the job is not where you should be complaining,in my opinion. Yesterday’s headlines, 1 in 8 live in poverty. Get out of it!
Nothing is making him stay. Move on.
If you don’t like the job you’re in—change it. If you need more education to get a better job, and your writing looks like you do, the GET SOME!! Stop WHINING and CHANGE THINGS!

Quitchabitchin’. If that is all he is making, then he is a fool. When I did roof jobs I made 200 a day. It was 110 outside and I realized it wasn’t worth that much. If he is only getting 1.50 an hour he is an idiot that should learn some math skills. They are ripping him off, but he is allowing it. Either that or he is spending it at the strip club.
Roofers have terrible jobs, but they are roofers by choice. I know people that worked as roofers during the summer. They hated it, but got paid well. It’s not like your husband did not know what he was getting into. Construction workers put in long hours and they have to go in early. Find a better job.
What are you thinking having a baby when you obviously do not have the means to support it? Are you one of those who will rely on welfare and food stamps? You have a lot bigger problem than a boyfriend who is too dumb to find a job for minimum wage.

That said get another job. get 2 jobes and work less than 70 hours a week and get paid more. if no HS diploma then get a GED. Even illegals get paid better than you husband is.
when we got pregnant, he was working a different job, only 3 days after the baby was born, did he learn the company’s business was moving out of state. NO, even when times got as bad as they could, did I ever rely on welfare and foodstamps. JERK. And do you not think that one would look for different employment? It’s tough these days to find a job very quick,and he can’t look so often when he is working 14 hour days. Do you advise he just quit, when there are 5 people to care for? No he is not an idiot, he only does the best he can…
yeah, def get a better job. could even find one in the same line of work if that’s what he likes to do.
That is all he makes an hour? Are you serious? He can get a much better paying roofing job somewhere else. Is he a legal resident? I cannot believe the low pay!

Construction work and especailly roofing is for losers, ex-convicts, and other low-lifes. I know, because I am one of the above and most everyone else in the business.
