Spoiled Brat Boss
I have always heard that working for Japanese company was hard specially for women (my case).....I was working at this bike manufacturer and had this boss from hell. The guy is young but is a spoiled brat. Whenever we have to drive to clients we have to pick him up at his place no matter if it is not in the way. So we have to drive over there and wait for the little prince of Bel Air. Oh, and he NEVER drives. I once hat to drive him for 5 hours to another city non-stop. And during the trip he would be talking to the highest volume to his friends at the cellular. This guy is not Japanese but his boss is.
This guy was so desperate for new gadgets that all new notebooks, monitors, cellular models or anything had to be his first! He would spend a whole day just bothering the IT guy to get him the new notebook first. He once told me to get him a new Nokia phone no matter what even if the company was not approving I had to do it. And when I couldn't because of internal policy, he told me I never did what he told me to....
There was this meeting where some Japanese VP and managers were going to attend. I prepared the material for the meeting. The meeting was supposed to be with management only. Then the spoiled brat tells me he is not going to do anything in the meeting and tells me to make the presentation to the Japanese VP. I was not prepared but did anyway. At the end the Japanese VP liked my presentation so much and said I did a good job specially with my fluent English. He emailed everybody that attended the meeting saying the same (of course including both the spoiled brat and our Japanese boss). I was very surprised specially because I was the only female in the meeting. Well, the spoiled prince never said even thank you for me and in the next meeting with the Japanese he didn't let me open my mouth....
This asshole also has very strong BO and everybody noticed! I was the new person in the office so I couldn't say anything. Specially after lunch he started to smell really strong. He also likes to spy on everybody. He would walk around the office to see if people were in the internet and used to listen to what people were talking at the phone and then go directly to the Japanese manager to tell.
In another meeting we were discussing layout at Dealers and I sit beside the Japanese manager. I told him about a detail in the one corner of the Dealer and of course he ignored me. A second later, the spoiled brat said the same thing and the Japanese manager said GOOD IDEA! If I was a boy he would have heard me.
In this company they wanted to even teach me how to write an email. Well I have been in the industry for 10 years and no one had to do that. Apparently for the Japanese my emails were never polite enough....
Well, at least the Japanese guy never asked me to bring water or coffee to meetings. He would do that to the girls in my team.
I was really not comfortable nor happy in that environment. After a discussion with the spoiled brat I left the company and decided never more work for a Japanese company...
Kudos hun, glad you left, I worked with a chinese guy once, and never again will I work beside one. Females are low on the totem pole as far as the Asian males are concerned. Glad you left you don't need that type of headache.
