The Pain in My Ass - Criticizing Mico Manager Bitch
I inherited this boss of mine with an acquisition. In her previous life, she was in CONTROL. Total control. However, when she came to our company, she became a small fish in a big pond with very little control. My previous boss thought it would be a splendid idea for me to report to her. I could learn about the site she came with. I could teach her about search engine optimization.
It wasn't too soon after I started reporting to her that the nightmare began.
Problem 1 - She disapproved of a consulting firm that was selected before she came to our company. From the very first meeting she started the bitching about their lack of knowledge, the way they conducted business. She actually told me one day - we have to "train" them to work with us. Hmmm...I always thought you worked with a consulting firm...not 'train' them. It wasn't long before I realized...she was 'training' me to work with her. Her biggest issue with this..she didn't select the firm, so no matter what they do...it's wrong.
Problem 2 - She disapproved of how things worked with her new company. The correct systems weren't in place, people didn't respond to emails quick enough, why do meetings start late...who's responsible was her cry. Her problem - she doesn't fit into the culture of the company.
Problem 3 - Nothing I do is correct. I'm told how to write an email, when to write an email, when NOT to respond to an email, who to respond to in an email, who not to include in an email. I'm to the point I don't want to do anything. I no longer reply to all in an email even if it's totally appropriate.
Problem 4 - When I think I have what she wants together - I don't. I ask for direction on what she wants in a report...I get no response. When I don't ask for direction I receive an email shortly telling me what was wrong, what I shouldn't have done, what I should have done...on and on.
It never ends with her. I moved 3,200 miles to continue in my job I had before she came to our company. I've been with them for over 7 years. I've got copies of job performance reviews with exceptional ratings...but with her I'll be lucky to meet expectations because I never know what the expectation is.
I have no idea what to do. I'm fucked anyway I go.
I feel for you.
All I can say is take your concerns to a higher person (in the company that is). Go to HR. Distance yourself from her, get into a different department, tell HR you would rather cut the grass then deal with an ass.
I really know what your going through. be tough...
Go above her and inform whoever about her lack of communication skills and poor directing performance. If she is unable to effectively communicate (any communication is effective as long as both parties understand the meaning of the communication without further explanation) to her subordinates then she is unfit for her position.
Let me be the first to tell you the obvious: SHE DOESNT LIKE YOU.
She didnt choose the consultant...SHE DIDNT CHOOSE YOU.
Got it? You need to get out from under her, or move like the previous commenter suggested. ASAP. Drop her like a bad habit.
If you WANTED To actually try and work it out, you'd have to have the kind of conversation that begins "describe your perfect employee....do i fit that image..."
etc. Often times not worth it...but it might give her some feeling of control back allowing her to "make the decision to keep you"...so to speak.
