Things that are NOT time sensative

My manager is one for the books. She will give me several tasks to complete during the work day. All tasks are completed by the time our offices close.

She checks in with me regularly and asks for constant updates on all the calls I need to make and other tasks on my list.

Sometimes things on those lists are time sensitive. Those things are given immediate attention and the tasks are completed as soon as possible.

SOME things on those lists are NOT time sensitive. However in my manager's eyes, EVERYTHING needs to be done now now NOW. She will pester me about insignificant tasks, then bitch when I tell her the tasks have not been completed yet. I always finish my tasks by the end of the day and do so paying close attention to detail.

I cant just fib and tell my manager all the calls were made when I have not completed them, because my boss (the micro-manager) will ask a battery of follow up questions. She loves to catch employees fibbing or messing up. I actually believe it delivers some type of chemical rush to her ... because then she's able to snap, vent, act out and displace her indignation upon people who don't warrant it.

People work more efficiently when they are not micro-managed.

Find out how others have dealt with her in the office, if it's just you she acts this way with....quit.

If it is something everyone experiences equally, then what she is searching for is someone to update her after every action.

Do that. After every call, call her, or email her and let her know you've done it, and the result....on a checklist, then tell her your next action.

Before you know it, you'll be her #1 employee, that's what she is LOOKING for...give it to her.

The best way to combat this type of behavior is to make work for her. I had a "new" boss that would do this and I would go back to him with 5 or 6 questions or things that I needed done. With the things I needed done I would spin it to make it seem like it was stuff he needed to do. Finally after about two weeks he started to leave me alone as it was not to his advantage to bug me, he moved on to others. I however never did tell the others how to get him off my back as I feared he would be back if they used me tactics.

Your too good for that nonsense, quit and tear her guts out while you make your way to the door. (verbaly)
