Work like a dog
I work at an advertising company where the creative director is also one of the owners. He is my boss. He thinks that not much planning needs to be done because everybody should stay late to get the work done. He comes in late to work excpecting the rest of the staff to start at 9 am and if work is not done due to his lack of organization then everybody should stay late. Of course he can leave early if he's got some workers at his house doing work to his basemement.
He'll often take calls in meetings from workers at his house and talking to them like crap as well. So everybody knows he's got cash but he refuses to give any compensation at all for those who stay late. His attitude is that when he employs somebody they owe him.
He is a complete tyrant. The majority of his employees are either interns or recent graduates that don't have any experience so they have to stay working for this asshole.
Sounds like you work in my company. Working late without getting payed seems to be already considerd “normal” in the advertising branche :( Like you said, the bosses really seem to think you have to be grateful that they allow you to work for them in their advertising company.
Sounds normal. If you have experience market yourself elsewhere. If you don’t have experience get it and get the hell out. Life is too short to work for an asshole althought they seem to be the norm not the exception these days. I worked for an asshole but now I work for a GREAT company. It can happen.
You are in control of your life. If you don’t like it, change it.
Well answering the post above unfortunately, interns and recent grds don’t have that luxury. My old company was like that
